From the Associate Dean for Research

phyllis pirieThe Ohio State University is now in the highest tier of public research universities in the country. Research, along with education and service, is a vital part of our mission at the College of Public Health. Through innovative, interdisciplinary research we are able to better understand the forces that affect public health, and we use that knowledge to improve the health of the people of Ohio, the nation, and the world.

The College of Public Health has a diverse and dynamic research portfolio. The total amount of research funding for College faculty has been steadily increasing over the past several years. This past year our faculty were awarded over $9 million in grant funds to pursue research in areas ranging from childhood obesity prevention to the ability of certain foods to prevent cancer.

In order to provide you with easy access to research-related information, the College's research pages have been organized into four main areas:

  • Under the Office of Research section, you will find an overview of our office staffing and the services we provide. There is also helpful information on research funding opportunities, policies and procedures, and some useful links.

  • Many of our groundbreaking contributions to the field of public health are showcased in the Research Highlights section. Research news stories, new awards, and press releases are included here. This section also highlights upcoming seminars offered in the College and lists university-wide events of interest to public health researchers and practitioners.

  • If you are interested in research projects and faculty research interests, or are looking for an expert in a particular area, visit our Research Projects section. We have outlined several areas of research that our college is actively pursuing. Student involvement in research is also highlighted, and recent publications are provided.

  • TheCollege is home to (or is affiliated with) a number of multi-disciplinary research centers, which are described in the Centers section.

The Office of Research at the OSU College of Public Health was created to facilitate and support the research mission of the College. I encourage you to use these research pages as a tool to learn more about our research program, and if you need more information please contact us.
